Sometimes it’s just not your day. Ten year old Albert Winter lives with his mother, father and Great Dane Archie. Lying down with a heavy heart, Albert reflects forlornly on a day of disasters: upsetting Lucy Dredgewater, the Art Class incident and his mother’s incomprehensible combination of egg and banana sandwiches. Worst of all, the intimidating Mrs Havers is ‘very disappointed’ in Albert’s behaviour and has threatened to call his parents.
Albert compounds his problems, slipping in a mighty dog poo on the way home and managing to tread it all the way up the stairs. Mrs Winter is distraught, new carpet may have to be bought! Mr Winter’s imparting of Socratic wisdom is really not that helpful. Losing all television rights for the evening, as his head hits the pillow, Albert is hoping for a better day tomorrow…
But with sleep comes a challenge that promises victory (and twenty-four freshly made banana sandwiches) or failure and certain death. As Albert’s dreams and reality merge, only one thing is clear – sleeping has never been so dangerous! Sometimes it’s just not your day or night – because somebody else is trying to take it…
